Homeland Security Secretary Tours Storm-Ravaged Seaford

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano toured the Seaford Harbor area Tuesday with local elected officials Tuesday to get an understanding of how the neighborhood was impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

Napolitano was accompanied on the tour of the Seaford area south of Merrick Road by U.S. Rep. Peter King, R-Seaford. Also viewing the devastation was U.S Rep. Steve Israel, D-Huntington, State Sen. Charles Fuschillo,R-Merrick, Assemblyman David McDonough, R-Merrick, Assemblyman Joseph Saladino, R-Massapequa, and Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray. 

Napolitano's Seaford visit included a visit to the home of Maureen Haskell, who lost her two firefighter sons Tim and Tom in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Napolitano was appointed as U.S. Homeland Security Secretary in 2009 after previously serving as governor of Arizona. The Department of Homeland Security was formed in the immediate aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
