Jones Beach Concert Season Ends With Fleetwood Mac Sounds

Award winning Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks closed out the summer concert season at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in front of a capacity crowd Sunday night with a song mix that included fan favorites and numbers from her new album.

In addition to performing her hit “Landslide”, which featured pictures of Nicks with her father and other family members on the screen behind her, the singer peppered other hits from her years 36 years with the band (“Rhiannon”, “Gold Dust Woman”) and her solo years (“Edge of Seventeen”) with new songs off her first studio album in 10 years, “In Your Dreams” which was released in May.

Nicks' show opened with Michael Grimm, the singer who beat favored-to-win 10 –year-old Jackie Evancho for the top spot on season five of “America's Got Talent”. He also joined Nicks on stage to play guitar on her new song, “For What It's Worth”.

The second to last Jones Beach 2011 show featured Incubus and their “If Not Now, When” tour. Young the Giant, fresh off their performance of “My Body” at last month's MTV Video Music Awards, performed in the opening slot.

Last weekend's show, which was set to feature B.B. King, the J. Geils Bank, Buddy Guy and Gary Clark Jr. for King's “Rib Rock Festival”, was canceled because of Hurricane Irene. However, the rest of August was filled with a variety of musical performances.

Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance performed on August 6 and 7 as part of the Honda Civic Tour, along with Manchester Orchestra and Alkaline Trio. The August 12 show also featured multiple performers-Maroon 5, Train and Matt Nathanson.

Rock legend Bob Dylan and his band took the stage the following night, after musician and fellow rock and roll hall of fame member Leon Russell opened the show with some songs from his 2010 collaboration with Elton John, “The Union”.

The “Eclipse Tour” on August 17 featured 80's favorites Journey, Foreigner and Night Ranger. That decade was also alive and well on August 24 thanks to performances by Whitesnake, Telsa and Sebastian Bach, former lead singer of Skid Row (“18 & Life”) and occasional actor (he was “Gil” for three seasons of “The Gilmore Girls”).

Not to be forgotten, the 1970's were also represented by Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Doobie Brothers on August 23. The night also featured an opening performance by Tom Hambridge and the Rattlesnakes.

Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefer Band's “Welcome to Fin Land” tour stopped at the beach on August 19. Keisha, LMFAO and Spank Rock took the stage August 20 for the New York edition of the “Get Sleazy” tour. The August 21 show featured Identity Fest, advertised as the first ever electronic music festival.

August had another cancellation, not related to the hurricane, which was the August 10 show by the Kings of Leon and Band of Horses.

The month of August and early September combined with the offered an assortment of music for diverse music tastes.
