Photos: Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corps Participates in National Night Out
The event was sponsored by Target and featured emergency workers from the Levittown area.
Levittown residents and local emergency workers gathered in the parking lot of Target on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown as part of the 28th annual National Night Out festivities.
The event is designed to facilitate communication between the police and the public and unite them against criminals. The emergency groups at the event included the Levittown Fire Department, the 8th precinct of the Nassau County Police Department, the Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Nassau County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Troopers. The Town of Hempstead was also present with a mobile office to show the public their Child Safety ID Program.
The Levittown Fire Department demonstrated for residents their process for removing passengers from a car fire. They first cut out the car's windshield before using equipment to take off the car doors. They then removed the car's roof.
The New York State Troopers set up a crash simulator at the event. Those who wanted to sit in the simulator were strapped into a model car seat and rode the simulator, which simulated a car accident occurring between five and seven miles an hour. The point of the simulator was to illustrate the effectiveness of seatbelts, even at such a low speed.
Food for the event was provided by Division Ave Caterers.
