Restaurant Review: Corry's Ale House

New hot spot opens in Wantagh.

 

Overview: Helen and John Corry, the owner's of Shackleton's in Franklin Square,  opened Corry's Ale House behind the Wantagh Long Island Rail Road station in mid September. The restaurant, located on 3274 Railroad Ave., features huge flat screen televisions to watch every New York sport teams, 20 different beers on tap, along with an extensive wine, liquor and food menu.

The Corry's, who were born and raised in Dublin and now reside in Wantagh, said of their new establishment, "We wanted to make a place where we would like to hang out." 

The Corry's have had their eye on this location for a while, when the space came available they capitalized on the opportunity. "We looked at this location 10 years ago, we wanted a nice place to go to for good food, beer, and a nice glass of wine," the owners explained.

Decor: Corry's combines everything a friendly neighbor restaurant should have. A nice ambience for college students as well as PTA mom's young and old. Dedicated to Wantagh the owners adorned the front of the restaurant black and gold to represent the Wantagh High School Warrior colors. Coming soon will be a Wantagh wall of fame showcasing some of the greatest athlete from the community.

The food: The menu is full of variety including a number of burgers and steaks to choose from as well as an extensive appetizer list such as shrimp cocktail ($14), Cajun poppers ($8), and homemade baked clams ($9) to name a few.

Their signature burger is Corry Burger with bleu cheese and scallions ($12). The menu is also friendly to seafood lovers as well with a shrimp po boy sandwich ($15) and a crispy fish wrap ($9). Some other favorites are the chicken pot pie ($10), sheppard's pie ($12), and baby back ribs ($22).

The Ale House has seven flat screen TV's showcasing the best sporting events and 25 cent wings every Saturday for College football as well as NFL Sunday and Monday night games. Corry's wings are available in buffalo, honey barbeque, teriyaki, Jamaican Jerk, and Cajun styles  for $8.

Service: Service is prompt with fast serving bartenders and friendly wait staff.
