Wantagh Teen Wins Long Island Half-Marathon

Molloy College sophomore cross country runner Nick Filippazzo finishes 13.1 mile race in 1:09:24.

Wantagh resident Nick Filippazzo, a sophomore cross county runner at Molloy College, captured the Long Island Half-Marathon title Sunday.

Filippazzo, 19, finished the 13.1 mile race with a time of 1:09:24. He edged out second place finisher Charles White of Kingwood, Texas by six seconds.  The race kicked off on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale and took runners north into Westbury before heading south on the Wantagh State Parkway and finishing at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.

The graduate is coming off a successful cross country season at Molloy in Rockville Centre where he earned All-Region honors after coming in ninth place at the NCAA Regional Championships. As a freshman in 2010, Filippazzo was named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year.

Prior to starring at Molloy, Filippazzo was a standout runner at Wantagh High School, earning All-Federation honors in cross country and All-State accolades in track.
