Whitesnake, Tesla and Sebastian Bach Join Forces at Jones Beach

Famed 80's hard rock bands take center stage in Wantagh.

David Coverdale first came to the attention of the general public in 1973, when he took over for Ian Gillan as lead singer of Deep Purple.

Coverdale was not well received and in fact, many Deep Purple fans saw him as a poor replacement.  In 1991, he teamed up with former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and once again faced criticism, this time from Led Zeppelin fans who believed him to be a cheap imitation of Robert Plant.  Of course, the most famous of detractor of Coverdale's singing was Robert Plant himself, who several years earlier had referred to him as "David Cover-version" in an interview with the Chicago Tribune.

Still, Coverdale is probably best known for his time as the frontman for Whitesnake, which was one of the top hair metal bands of the 1980's.  Coverdale and Whitesnake will take center stage at Wantagh’s Wednesday night when they headline a metal show with Tesla and Sebastian Bach.

Whitesnake’s songs like "Is This Love," "Still of the Night," and "Here I Go Again" helped define the hair band genre and were made even more famous with killer videos featuring the beautiful Tawny Kitaen.  They toured for parts of the 1990's but it wasn't until 2002 that they were back at full strength and out on the road again regularly.  Now, 33 years after their initial formation, Whitesnake continues to move forward, with a new album "Forevermore," which they released on March 29.

As was the case with Whitesnake, Tesla also took the 1980's and even the early 1990's by storm.  Songs like "Modern Day Cowboy," "Love Song," and most especially their cover of Five Man Electrical Band's "Signs" established them as a big arena attraction.  After their 1994 album, "Bust a Nut," Tesla took a six year hiatus, only to return by popular demand in 2000.  Since then, four of the five original members continue to tour and put out new albums, with guitarist Tommy Skeoch being the only original member no longer in the picture (Skeoch decided to leave in 2006 in order to spend more time with his family and was replaced by Dave Rude).

Also joining the festivities Wednesday in Wantagh is Sebastian Bach, who will play a plenty of his solo material as well as songs from his days as the lead singer for Skid Row. It will be Bach's second Wantagh appearance this year as the hard rock vocalist also performed at in May.
