Seaford Public Library Announces Summer Concert Series Schedule

The has announced the dates and bands for its Summer 2011 Concert Series: Music for a Saturday Evening.

“The library has been hosting this event for several years now and it has proven to be extremely popular,” said Peter J. Ruffner, Seaford Public Library president. “We very much appreciate the financial support given for sponsorship of these concerts by the Seaford Lions Club, , Friends of the Seaford Public Library and the Seaford Wellness Council.”

All concerts are held on Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. which according to the library’s vice president Steve Gaughran “allows the residents to enjoy a warm summer weekend night with family, friends and neighbors.” The series will kick-off on July 16 with “Turnpike Joe and the Traffic Jam”, which perform pop, rock, doo-wop, and country hits from the fabulous 50s.

On July 30, a Long Island’s country music vocalist and her band will come to Seaford when the “Mary Lamont Band” performs. This band was voted “Band of the Year” by the NY Metro Country Music Association and has recorded a number of CDs. Trustee Eileen Montalbano encourages “the fine folks of Seaford to come on down and kick up your heels to some very fine country music.”

Doo-wop music will be featured on August 13  when the “New York Exceptions” take the stage to entertain. The final show of the series is set for August 27  when “Risky Business” with their extensive playlist of rock songs from the 50s to the present returns to Seaford.

Trustee Patricia Coughlin “reminds residents that all shows are held at the parking lot behind the library with the exception of the season finale on August 27. That show will be held at the Gazebo at the .”

“It should be another wonderful summer for music in Seaford and all are invited to share in the fun and culture” said library trustee John Rall.

Further information about the Summer Concert Series is available on the library’s website.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.
