Wantagh Wrestling Wins Eastern States

The Wantagh wrestling team won the 11th annual Eastern States Classic this past weekend held at Sullivan Community College against some of the top wrestlers from the east coast.

In a field more challenegong than the Ne York State Championships, Wantagh won the tournament followed by Shenendehowa, Westfield (Va)., Danbury (Conn.) and Eastport South Manor, who tied Colonie. Last year during Wantagh's championship run the team finished tied for third but this year there was no denying the black and gold.

The previous weekend, Wantagh was the first team from Long Island to capture the Union Endicott Duals, which could bode well to catapulting the Warriors to a second straight championship in New York State at the conclusion of the season. The Warriors crowned one champion Dan McDevitt, who defeated Christian Dietrich (Greene), 6-2, in the 170-pound class. Other Warrior placers were finalist Kyle Quinn (2nd at 106), Chris Araoz (3rd at 126), Vin Turano (3rd at 132) and James Corbett (3rd at 182).  One of the three Outstanding Wrestler Awards was Wantagh's Dan McDevitt.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
