During the month of April, it will feature work by talented artists, Suzie Alvey from Garden City, Pat DeTullio of New Hyde Park, husband and wife team of Karmen and Paul David Elsen from Hempstead and Sabine Jean-Bart of Williston Park. All paintings will be for purchase.

The "Meet the Artists" reception with wine and refreshments will be held on Saturday, April 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. All are invited to meet the artists.

In October 2012 Ms. Alvey was awarded the "President's Volunteer Service Award" from President Barak Obama for extraordinary charity work. Suzie won NYS Assemblyman Tom McKevitt’s “Women of Distinction Award” in 2009 for her volunteer work in the areas of history with the Garden City Historical Society and environment with the Garden City Bird Sanctuary (Tanners Pond Environmental Center) and other charities.

Pat DeTullio has exhibited at the Guild Hall Members Show, the Clothesline Art Show, at the organizations she belongs to and Barnes Gallery.

Pat has received many awards with the most recent being Third Place in the December 2013 Nassau County Art League Member Show. Her paintings are in many private collections.

Ms. DeTullio has studied with Al Comaradi, Howard Rose, Rob Silverman and Gloria Yudkin. She is a member of the following organizations: the National Art League, the Nassau Art League, Guild Hall and the  Ashawagh Hall Artists Alliance of East Hampton.

Paul David Elsen studied illustration in the early 1980's at The High School of Art and Design. While there he studied drawing under the late Irwin “Greeny” Greenberg, and participated in the famed figure study sessions known as “The Old Hat Club” organized by Greeny and the noted artist, Max Ginsburg who was awarded the "New York City’s Teacher of Year" in 1979.

Other directions in life led Elsen to other occupations. However in 2009, due to the prompting by his beloved wife, Karmen, he once again turned his attentions back to art, and has since studied with Paul Bachem, Howard Rose, Marc Josloff and Rob Silverman.

Paul David is a board member of both the Art League of Nassau County and the National Art League, and for the NAL has had a number of prize winning entries in their exhibitions. He has been juried into exhibitions at the Huntington Art Council's Petite Gallery, as well as at My Gallery (sic) and has shown in the Graphic Eye (both in Port Washington); and has appeared in a group show at the Locust Valley. He is most proud however, of the joint show held with Karmen, which was exhibited in the fall of 2013 at the Cold Spring Harbor Library.

Karmen Elsen best enjoys capturing in watercolors or drawings a special moment of time, whether in the pose of a model, a beloved pet, a magnificent animal caught candidly at a local zoo and even rendering a dramatic statue.

Ms. Elsen had work exhibited in the 2014 "Women of the World Art & Photography Exhibit" and recently in the library galleries of Cold Spring Harbor, Locust Valley and C. W. Post University.

Karmen also actively participates in the National Art League and the Art League of Nassau County. She has studied with Rob Silverman and Marc Josloff.

As a child in Germany, Sabine Jean-Bart loved to be creative. A few years after coming to the United States, the Williston Park artist learned how to paint at the Herricks Community Center under the guidance of Kiril Tzochev and Gloria Yudkin.

Since then, Sabine has been taking courses in landscape painting with Howard Rose and in portraiture with Rob Silverman at the National Art League. She draws her inspiration from the beloved humans and animals in her life. In the past two years Sabine has explored painting the beauty of nature in landscapes. Her preferred medium is oil, but loves to switch up her style and technique with acrylic and watercolor.

Sabine is a juried member of the Art League of Nassau County, as well as the National Art League and has received awards in shows with both organizations.

The Barnes Gallery is located at 2 Nassau Boulevard, corner of Cambridge Avenue, in Garden City South. All artwork can be viewed during business hours. Please visit Barnes Gallery on Facebook or call 516-538-4503.
