#73: Bring Home a Family Companion

Adopting a pet can be a very rewarding experience.

If you're looking for your first or another family pet, adopting is a great way to go.

While many people consider buying their pets, adopting is far less expensive, without the guilt of supporting puppy mills. Puppy mills are defined as a place where dogs are bred, usually under severely inhumane conditions. According to reports, shelter animals are usually in better health than ones bought in stores, because stores have inbred animals in cramped conditions. Many shelters vaccinate their animals and may even spay or neuter for you.

The , located in Wantagh, has hundreds of animals for you to adopt. Whether you want to give an abused animal a safe home or just adopt for companionship, the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter has the perfect pet for you. From now until August 28, the shelter is offering free adoptions.
