#99 Walk around Wantagh Park

Enjoy the scenery at Wantagh Park while walking on a fitness trail.

Since 1961, has been a place for family and friends to picnic during the summer months. There is also a large playground on the 111 acres of land and docks for your boats.

One popular feature at Wantagh Park that can be utilized even in the cold winter months is two dog runs. There is one trail for small dogs and another for larger dogs. Here, your playful pup can run with other dogs and play with some toys. There are chairs for owners to sit and talk with other residents while their dogs are at play.

When the snow finally melts the park has an array of activities including five tennis courts, three softball fields, one baseball field, one-mile and two-mile walking paths that can be used for bicycling and jogging.  A swimming complex is located on the south side of the park, opening in June and remaining open through Labor Day.  The complex has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a “kiddie” pool, and interactive water area, and two 30-foot waterslides.

There are also some bocci and horseshoe areas, along with a game area for chess and checkers. A gazebo, located behind the swimming complex, overlooks the bay and is the perfect spot to rest during your fitness walks.
