Annual Testaverde Fund 5K Race Slated for April 14

Organization in Wantagh devoted to helping families with spinal cord injuries holding fundraising run at Wantagh High School.

The Testaverde Fund and Long Island Spinal Cord Injury Resource Center in Wantagh is hosting its annual 5K Race for Spinal Victory on April 14 at Wantagh High School.

Since its founding 10 years ago, the Testaverde Fund for Spinal Cord Injury has provided community outreach and educational support to families who suffer major injuries while also fundraising for research. The organization is named for Wantagh resident Joe Testaverde, who in 2000 was gearing up for his senior year at Wantagh High School when a tragic swimming accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. Today, Testaverde, cousin of former National League quarterback Vinny Testaverde, serves as the assistant director to the Long Island Spinal Cord Resource Center, which is located on 3445 Edgerton Ave. in Wantagh.

The Testaverde Fund is seeking volunteers to spend an hour this Saturday, April 6, distributing road closure flyers along the race area. The volunteers will be meeting in the parking lot of Wantagh High School.
