Annual Turkey Bowl Event to Help Superstorm Sandy Victims

Net-proceeds from Saturday's flag football tournament at MacArthur High School in memory of fallen Wantagh native Rick Bailey to go toward Superstorm Sandy relief efforts.

This Saturday’s fifth annual Rick Bailey Memorial Turkey Bowl flag football tournament in honor of a MacArthur High School graduate from Wantagh tragically killed in Albany will take on an extra-special meaning.

Organizers of the flag football event at Levittown’s MacArthur High School and post-tournament reception at Mulcahy’s Pub & Concert Hall in Wantagh will be using net-proceeds toward Superstorm Sandy relief efforts on Long Island in Bailey’s name. Bailey, a former Wantagh resident and MacArthur football player, was shot and killed in October 2008 during a botched robbery while attending college at the University at Albany. Bailey's killer, De Von Callicutt, was convinced and sentenced to life in prison.

The flag football tournament, which is open to both men and women, is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The post-tournament reception at Mulcahy’s will take place from 4-8 p.m. and feature a $40 open bar, buffet, live music and raffles. Organizers will also be collecting for the annual John Theissen Children’s Foundation Holiday Toy Drive.

Tickets for the Bailey Memorial Turkey Bowl can be purchased in advance at Sal’s Place on 1495 Hicksville Road in Massapequa. For further information, log onto the event’s Facebook page

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
