Battling Cancer with Comedy
Local comedians gathered at Behind Bars Comedy club in Wantsgh to help support Port Jefferson Station resident Joe Croce's battle with GBM brain cancer.
Eight local comedians performed at Behind Bars Comedy Club in Wantagh on Saturday evening in a fundraiser for Port Jefferson Station resident Joe Croce, who was diagnosed with GBM brain cancer in 2010.
In addition to the comedic performances for Joe's Cause were items auctioned off, including gift cerftificates and limited edition posters. Originally scheduled for August 27, the event was poatponed due to Hurricane-turned Tropical Storm Irene.
"We're just glad we were able to reschedule the fundraiser, and have as many comedians come out and help Joe," said Justin Thompson, a friend of Croce and and comedian by the name "Stoney", who organized the benefit. "He's a wonderful person and he we're here to help with his medical expenses."

Croce is being treated for his cancer at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University.
"I'm overwhelmed by everyones generosity," said Croce. "Im very thankful for the support."

Hosted by Thomas J. Bellezza, he and other comedians such as Jessica Collazo, Tim Thompson and Rob Civadones prooved that laughter is the best medicine for Joe and his family and friends. The auction portion of the night was conducted by comedian Mark Zakarin.
