Editor's Notebook: I'm Moving On from Wantagh-Seaford Patch

Saying goodbye to an area that will forever be in my heart.

In the gear up to launch Wantagh-Seaford Patch during the summer of 2010, I attended the Wantagh and Seaford school board reorganization meetings that July to learn more about the area I would be covering.

Ironically, three years later, the July 11 Seaford Board of Education reorganization meeting for the 2013/14 school year will be the last event I will cover as editor of Wantagh-Seaford Patch. It is with a heavy heart that I inform the two communities I have grown to love that today is my last day as as your local editor.

I have met some amazing people in both Wantagh and Seaford the past three years, and my pre-Patch admiration for both communities has only been heightened. From a commitment to strong schools, as well as creating opportunities for youths in athletics and the arts, Wantagh and Seaford are both incredible places to raise a family. I have also been impressed by the area’s response following Hurricane Sandy last fall to assist those south of Merrick Road displaced from their homes.

From covering important school news, such as Seaford’s rebound from a contingency budget, to dramatic high school sports playoff runs, to tracking key development projects, like the new Wantagh Town Plaza anchored by Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, the past three years have been extremely rewarding. I have been touched by the kind words told to me while informing people the past two weeks of my departure, and going forward I hope to stay connected as much as I can to Wantagh-Seaford.

My new work journey will involve commuting on the Long Island Rail Road to New York City, and when train stops for Wantagh and Seaford are announced they will have an extra special meaning to me. I will greatly miss covering both of these strong communities.
