Forest City Community Park Celebrates Spring

A ribbon cutting ceremony for new clubhouse and annual egg hunt held Sunday morning.

Spring was in full swing this past Sunday in Wantagh as the (FCCA) held its annual Egg Hunt.

The event at also included a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the park’s newly renovated clubhouse. Families made the most of the event, arriving with baskets to collect their eggs and staying to enjoy the park after all the eggs had been discovered.

FCCA President Rob Steiner said that the park's recent was a team effort with the Town of Hempstead providing support.

“Everything we asked for, they did it…the town and the association really worked together on this,” he said.

Improvements to the park include widening doors and other passages for better handicap accessibility and the very popular name a brick program, which allowed community members to sponsor a brick with a personal message. These bricks now make up the path to the clubhouse and Steiner explained that the program is continuing.

“We just sent in a second batch of about 120 bricks to be inscribed, but there’s still about 50 more available,” he said.

The egg hunt was preceded by a short ceremony in which Steiner thanked all those involved with the project, especially town Supervisor Kate Murray,Councilman Gary Hudes, R-Levittown and Nassau County Legislator Dennis Dunne,R-Levittown, all of whom were on hand to celebrate the occasion.

Supervisor Murray said she was happy to be able to attend and, “proud of the effort put into this wonderful labor of love.” Councilman Hudes called the park, “the best kept secret in the town of Hempstead.” He also said he was thrilled to be involved in what he called, “a great partnership.”

After the ceremony the egg hunt was on. There was a separate area for children five and under so they could easily find their eggs while older youths did their searching in the rest of the playground area.

Forest City Park recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and Steiner explained that this park was a special place for the local residents and association members Rosemary Fordham and Barbara Geiger agreed, saying,

“Our families love it here, and the town has always supported us,” said Steiner.
