Jan. 22 Coping With the Snow

A look at Wednesday in the Wantagh-Seafoord area.

We start Wednesday under a blanket of snow.  It moved into the area earlier than expected and stayed in the area through most of Tuesday.

Here's what you need to know as we start the day.

Schools: Both Wantagh and Seaford Public Schools will be closed Wednesday due to the snow.

Library: The Seaford Public Library is closed Wednesday

Sanitation/Recycling: There will be no garbage or recycling collection on Wednesday. It will be picked up on your next scheduled collection day.

Parks: All Town of Hempstead Parks and Community  rooms are closed on Wednesday.

Non Emergency Hotline: Nassau County has activated a hotline for non-life threatening emergencies related to the storm. If you have such an emergency call 1-888-684-4274

Coping with the snow: get up early; eat a hearty breakfast; layer-on clothing; grab the shovel, a broom and the car keys, clean the stoop and the walkway, broom-off the car and start it; bring back the garbage can I had put out last night since the Town canceled garbage collection; scoop out some ice melt and treat the stoop and walkway, turn off the car once the wipers work. Shave, dress for work, and walk to the station to catch the next train to the city. SNOW=COPED-WITH.

Chris, You have been living here HOW long? You didn't know the TOH cancels garbage removal when it snows?
