Large Turnout for Jones Beach Superstorm Sandy Cleanup

More than 70 volunteers attend cleanup of local landmark hosted by Ocean Conservancy.

A Dec. 8 cleanup of Wantagh's Jones Beach in response to damage caused by Superstorm Sandy was hosted by environmental activists this past Saturday with more than 70 volunteers helping toward the effort.

Volunteers from Ocean Conservancy went to locations around New York and New Jersey devastated by the Oct. 29 storm including Jones Beach, which suffered extensive flood damage. Ocean Conservancy and its select corporate partners, LandShark Lager and Altria, hosted the beach cleanup as part of “For the Shore”, a coordinated volunteer effort organized by Clean Ocean Action.
