LIRR Running Extra Trains for Thanksgiving Weekend

Schedule changes for the holiday will begin on Wednesday.

The Long Island Rail Road will be running extra trains along the Babylon Branch during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

A total of 11 extra trains will run along the Babylon Branch during the weekend, including three eastbound trains on Wednesday, Nov. 21. The MTA does advise travelers to expect full trains and potential delays with the extra foot traffic on the trains.

Trains will be running on Thursday and Friday on Holiday Schedules, with these additional trains.

Wednesday, November 21

  • 2:32 p.m. eastbound express to Lynbrook, then all stops to Babylon
  • 3 p.m. eastbound stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon
  • 3:31 p.m. eastbound express to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon

Thanksgiving Day, November 22

  • 7:01 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. westbound trains from Wantagh, making all stops to Lynbrook, Jamaica and Penn Station
  • 12:21 p.m. westbound from Speonk, making all stops to Babylon, Jamaica and Penn Station
  • 11:54 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 12:56 p.m., and 1:22 p.m. eastbound trains from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all local stops to Babylon.

Saturday, November 24, and Sunday, November 25

  • The LIRR will add one overnight train each night from Penn Station to Babylon.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
