'Rebuild & Recovery Directory' Created for Wantagh-Seaford Sandy Victims

New resource formed by Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners' Association includes list of agencies available to assist residents impacted by superstorm.

A local civic group has helped create a resource aimed at helping Wantagh and Seaford residents still impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

The post-Sandy "Rebuild & Recovery Directory" spearheaded by the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners’ Association (WSHA) includes agencies available to assist those who were displaced or suffered major damage from the Oct. 29, 2012 superstorm. The agencies included in the directory includes those who attended a post-Sandy recovery forum hosted by the WSHA held on April 15 in Seaford  that was attended by more than 300 people.

“The Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners’ Association created a directory of all the agencies that were in attendance, including ones that have contacted us recently to be included, with contact names and numbers to call for assistance,” said WSHA President Ella Stevens. “We still have families displaced, many of whom are still looking for help and direction.”

The WSHA announced plans to create these directories shortly after the forum and Stevens said they are now ready for distribution. The directories will be available at the Wantagh and Seaford libraries as well as upon request by calling 516-409-1645 or emailing info@wsha.li.

Stevens said roughly 40 homes in the Wantagh-Seaford area have applied for permits to elevate their homes and more applications are being submitted.

“Answers are still needed,” she said. “We hope our ‘Rebuild & Recovery Directory’ can help in those efforts.”
