Seaford American Legion Honors Community Leaders

Post 1132 holds annual "Law and Order Night" award ceremony.

The recently saluted local men and women that have made significant contributions to the community at its annual “Law and Order Night.”

The celebration included an award ceremony where each winner received a plaque and was given the opportunity to speak. Awards were given to people who have contribute to the local community both in law enforcement as well as education

“It was an evening to salute men and women who have done commendable things in Seaford,” said President Peter Ruffner, who attended last month’s ceremony that was held at the Seaford American Legion Hall on Penatiquit Avenue.

Two Nassau County police officers that were honored at the ceremony were Louis Morga from the and Lawrence Gilrain from the Eighth Precinct. Other first responders that were recognized included the Firefighter of the Year John Nickdow and former Seaford fire chief and EMT Raymond Kuhner.

On the education side the Teacher of the Year award was given to Louise Valentino, who teaches eighth grade math at .

The Seaford Citizen of the Year was awarded to Marilyn Griffin, who last month as Seaford Public Library director following nine years in the position. The Distinguished Service to the Community award winner was Charles Wroblewski, who is president of the .
