Seaford Community Organizing Free Thanksgiving Dinner For Sandy Victims

Holiday meal to held at Memorare Council #3476 Knights of Columbus Hall from 2-5 p.m. on Nov. 22.

The Seaford community has banded together to organize a free Thanksgiving dinner for residents whose homes were damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

The Thanksgiving Day meal is scheduled from 2-5 p.m. at Memorare Council #3476 Knights of Columbus Hall on 2183 Jackson Ave., Seaford. The Nov. 22 feast is being organized by the Seaford Harbor Civic Association in collaboration with the Seaford Chamber of Commerce, Seaford PTA groups and Seaford Wellness Council. Those interested in attending the meal should RSVP to Alice by calling 516-313-2987.

The Seaford Chamber of Commerce is also giving back to the community in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy with the establishment of a relief fund. Donations to the Seaford Chamber Relief Fund can be sent to P.O. Box 1634 Seaford, NY 11783.

Phil Franco, president of the Seaford Harbor Civic Association, said it is also important that resident check up on neighbors, especially those who are elderly, to see if they are in need. He said many residents who live south of Merrick Road were especially hit hard by the Oct. 29 storm and can use assistance but may be reluctant to come forward asking for help.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
