Seaford Duo Starts Sports Radio Talk Show

Titled "Team Sin Bin," Matt Fernando and Mike Schneider are featured on WCWP Sports Radio at CW Post.

Local Seaford sports fans Matt Fernando and Mike Schneider have started their own radio talk-show titled "Team Sin Bin," on Sunday nights from 7 p.m. -9 p.m. on WCWP Sports Radio at CW Post.  As former athletes and life time sports fans, both are knowledgeable and personable sources for all things sports.

Schneider graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a Political Science degree, and Fernando graduated from Boston College in Communications.

Fernando began his radio experience as a station manager at Boston College, and play-by-play voice for football, hockey, basketball and baseball teams.  After graduating in 2008, he missed his time in the radio station, and decided to send out emails to local colleges with radio program openings.  When CW Post replied back, him and Schneider became Team Sin Bin.

Some of their feature segments include:

  • Breaking the Law - A look at athletes who have been arrested in the past week.
  • Minor, Major, Game Misconduct - Ranking the three worst sports stories of the week.
  • Smack Talk Smack Down -  A recap of the best trash talk of the week.
  • Fantasy Musts and Busts -  A breakdown of the best and worst fantasy football performers.

Schneider and Fernando have both played sports their entire lives.  Schneider played varsity volleyball at SUNY New Paltz, and Fernando played high school football, and continues to play hockey every weekend.  They also play on multiple softball teams.  "We have a bit of diversity when it comes to sports teams," said Fernando.  "We're both Islanders fans, and my family has had season tickets for 22 years," said Fernando.

The duo have also done community service with their radio program.  They've sponsored a team of six walkers for the Nassau County Red Cross Disaster Relief walk at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday, April 2, which they have raised over $500 for.  "We're going to continue to do more community outreach in the future," said Fernando.

Their show can currently be heard by logging on to http://www.wcwpsports.com, and clicking on the "listen live" link.  They hope to eventually broadcast their program on FM radio.
