Lions International Poster Contest encourages children ages 11-13 to creatively express what peace means to them.

The Seaford Lions Club recently sponsered its annual Poster Contest last month that encourages children ages 11-13 to creatively express what peace means to them.

The 2012-2013 theme for the Lions International Poster Contest was “Imagine Peace." The winners from Seaford Middle School included Jenny Chin (first place), Julia DiCanio (second place) and Samantha Langmaack (third place). Winners from St. William the Abbot School included Megan Monahan (first place), Rachelle Casement (second place) and Olivia Letteri (third place).

Each winner is awarded a certificate and prize. First place winners move on for levels of judging with the international prize winner receiving $5,000.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
