Second Annual Bowling Cancer Fundraiser Held at Wantagh Lanes
MacArthur High School freshman Rose-Marie Snyder organizes benefit for the American Cancer Society in honor of her late grandfather.
A MacArthur High School freshman organized her second bowling fundraiser for the American Cancer Society held this past Friday at AMF Wantagh Lanes.
Wantagh resident Rose-Marie Snyder, 14, created the second annual bowling benefit in honor of her grandfather Joseph Prete, who died eight years ago from prostate cancer. The idea for this event, which was first held in April 2012, came from Snyder’s love for bowling and a desire to honor her grandfather’s memory.
"I hope he's watching down on me and proud of me for doing this," said Snyder, who is on the MacArthur bowling team and a member of the school’s Key Club.

Last year’s inaugural bowling fundraiser at AMF Wantagh Lanes raised $1,500 for the American Cancer Society, a total Snyder said she hopes doubles from Friday’s event. Many raffles were on display including tickets to sporting events, an American Girl doll and a variety of gift certificates.
Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes, R-Levittown, attended the fundraiser and presented Snyder with a citation for her charitable efforts.
