For over 60 years Maplewood has been educating nursery, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten aged children. In addition to its nursery school, Maplewood also runs a summer program and has a mission of making sure to “encourage social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth and development.”

Offering private instruction for approximately 200 children, Wee Friends tries to keep the children they oversee under six years old. From games to creative learning, the school always transforms the same school-year programs into creative summer programs.

For children ages 18 months to five years old, Doris Kramer Pre-School has been teaching them language arts, computer instruction, cultural arts, crafts and taking them on creative field trips. Open since the 1970s, the school, which also offers a summer camp program, is located in the .

Nearby Hofstra University offers both academic, specialty and Sports Academy camp programs for students and athletes from ages three through 12. Programs include art, science, fashion, health and wellness, literacy, robotics, music and dance study. The Sports Academy offers young athletes the opportunity to train with Hofstra NCAA coaches in basketball, lacrosse, baseball, soccer, softball, wrestling and cheerleading.

This summer camp, found on "The Ranch" in Merrick has been in business for many years. The camp is only accessed by parents of students and staffers and offers a wide range of activities.
