VIDEO: Strong Winds Hit Wantagh-Seaford Area

Wind Advisory in effect for Long Island until Thursday at 6 p.m.

Heavy wind gusts from a storm moving through Long Island Thursday were evident in both Wantagh and Seaford with traffic lights swaying and some residents losing power. 

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory around 9 a.m. Thursday that will remain in effect until 6 p.m. for western Long Island, New York City, Lower Hudson Valley, northeast New Jersey and western portions of southern Connecticut. 

As of 2:05 p.m., the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) was reporting 841 outages in the Town of Hempstead including 23 in Wantagh. Seaford had less than five power outages as of early afternoon, according to LIPA.
