Wantagh-Seaford Whiz Kid: Michael A. Granito
Highlighting kids that inspire the community.
Wantagh resident Michael A. Granito was recently recognized for his hard work on Eagle Scout project assisting a Merrick Catholic Charities Organization.
For Granito’s Eagle Scout project he assisted the Regina Residence, a Catholic Charities Organization located in Merrick that provides housing for unwed mothers and their young children. The project involved the installation of a four-foot chain link fence that provides a secure boundary area between the backyard of the residence and the parking lot for .
The project also included leveling the backyard, removal of large pieces of concrete and placement of two yards of topsoil. Lime, fertilizer and seed were applied to the new topsoil. Two gardens were also planted and two Adirondack chairs were sanded and stained.

Granito’s project involved 54 volunteers and took 255 hours to complete. For his efforts Nassau County Legislator Norma L. Gonsalves, R-East Meadow, recently attended Troop 577 Eagle Court of Honor for Granito and presented him with a Nassau County Legislative Citation.
Granito has served over 200 hours of community service and is currently the senior patrol leader for Boy Scout Troop 577, which is sponsored by American Legion Post 1749 in North Bellmore. The Wantagh teen is also a certified BSA lifeguard.
