Wantagh Woman Buys $1 Million Scratch-Off Ticket

Joanne Eggolt of Wantagh is a frequent lottery player who often buys her tickets at Wittenberg Enterprise in Levittown.

In January, Eggolt stopped at her usual store on 628 Wantagh Ave. and struck lottery heaven. Eggolt checked the randomly-selected scratch-off she purchased in her car, and then went back into the store to confirm if she had read the numbers correctly and indeed won a $1 million prize

“I thought I made a mistake," Eggolt said at a Feb. 22 New York Lottery event in which she was presented with her prize check. "When I saw all the zeros, I ran out...I didn’t believe it.”

The $1 million prize is paid as a one-time lump sum. Eggolt is sharing her winnings with her husband, Charles MacPherson, and her mother, Catherine Eggolt. They will each receive $220,600 after required with holdings. They plan to use their prize money to fix up their house and save for retirement.
