Every community has people who make the area stronger, people who make an impact on our lives on a regular, sometimes daily, basis.

There are educators, business owners, volunteers, public officials, clergy members and others working to make Wantagh and Seaford a better place.

Patch is compiling a list of local people who mattered in 2012. We need your help.

Nominate candidates in the comment section below. Please give us the person's name and what they did to deserve notice.

Previous winners are not eligible this year.

Maureen Goldberg, Superintendent of Wantagh Schools, for restoring stability to the turbulent leadership of the district, and for providing professional leadership to the Board of Education and the entire district organization, resulting in, among a much longer list of accomplishments, the implementation of Full-day Kindergarten plus a sound budget well within the state tax cap. But I think the best part of what Maureen has done is the fact that everything is so very much a team effort and thus the accomplishments are team accomplishments and results, rather than just an individual achievement (which it certainly is, as well). So, in recognizing Maureen Goldberg for her professional educational leadership, I/we are also recognizing every member of the team of which she is the leader.
