Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano is urging citizens to grab some lunch at Volcano’s Burgers & Salads on March 10 beginning at 11:30 a.m. to help raise funds for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Volcano’s Burgers & Salads located at 2710 Long Beach Road in Oceanside will donate 20 percent of each check from the day’s receipts to the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund (NHRF) to benefit victims of the storm.
“With many of our neighbors still struggling financially from the impact of Hurricane Sandy, charitable contributions will help families in need,” said County Executive Mangano.
The NHRF was created by County Executive Mangano in November 2012 to collect and organize donations and distribute them to victims of Sandy. Priority is given to those applicants who are not entitled to reimbursement from FEMA, do not have homeowners or flood insurance and are not receiving assistance from other government relief programs.
County Executive Mangano said that he is hopeful that the funds collected through the fund will provide some peace of mind to those in need. Nassau residents lost not only home and property but also income as destruction from the storm closed roads and businesses for days afterward.
The NHRF is run by an all-volunteer committee, which is chaired by the Rev. Kevin Smith, Chaplain for Nassau County’s Volunteer Fire Department. The committee includes Chaplains from the Nassau County Police Department including Rev. Gerard Gordon; Rev. Joseph D’Angelo; Rabbi Barry Dov Schwartz; Rabbi Abraham Lefkowitz; and Bishop Robert Harris.
