Formaggio Cooks up Classic and Simple Italian

Seaford pizzeria serves up specialty pies and traditional Italian dishes.

Open since 1999, in Seaford is a good fit for a quick dinner that’s still hearty and delicious. The restaurant, located on 1240 Hicksville Rd., is small, but has lots of charm and with food you can count on for dine-in, deliver, or catering services.

The Décor: Though the restaurant is small, it’s packed with a lot of style, with checkered tablecloths and traditional Italian décor giving it a classic feel. There are also pictures on each wall with celebrities, most of whom have signed their photo. There are lots of Italian-American celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, and still shots from classic mafia films like the Godfather and Goodfellas.

Appetizers: Some of the appetizers come in two sizes, like the boneless buffalo wings, which come in ½ pound ($7) and 1 pound ($12) servings. Other choices include their mussels marinara ($12) and the customer favorite mozzarella sticks ($6).

Entrees: Formaggio’s chicken parmigiana ($14) is probably their most popular entrée, with chicken francese ($14) coming in second. The shrimp marinara over lunguini ($16) is available fra diavolo or sweet, and the eggplant rollatini ($15), stuffed with ricotta and mozzarella is alos popular. All entrees are served with salad, bread, and pasta of your choice.

Pizzas: Pizza is a popular option as Formaggio’s has so many to offer, like their pizza rustica ($18) with pepperoni, prosciutto, and salami or their pizza spinaci funghi ($18) with mushrooms and fresh spinach. Cheese pies ($13) and grandma pizza ($14) are also popular. They also offer 10’’ personal pizzas ranging from 6.95 to 10.95, depending on the toppings. Their calzones, like sausage and pepper or eggplant parmigiana are all between 5.50 and 7.00 and are favorites of regulars as well.

Sides: Varying in size and price, guests can get a side of grilled chicken (small $1.75, large $11) or a pint of tomato sauce for $5.00. An extra side of pasta goes for $5.00 as well, and sides of sausage, broccoli, and meatballs are all available for $5.50.

Desserts: Traditional desserts are available at Formaggio’s like fresh cannoli ($2.75). They also offer zeppolis is a few different sizes, with 3 for $1.50, six for $3.00 and if you’re still hungry after such a great meal, 12 for $5.

Service: The cozy atmosphere spreads to the service, which is quick, helpful, and personal. Pizza and calzones are served at the counter and entrees are brought right to your table after a short wait.

Signature Dish: Formaggio’s signature dish is definitely one of its brick oven pizzas. The pizza alla vodka ($10.95 for 10'' pie and $18.50 for 16'' pie) is their most popular specialty pizza, with penne alla vodka over a cheesy pie, made to order.
