Agree Tom....there are five hospitals in Nassau County alone that rank ahead of Mercy. Sorry to say this, but between having family members both admitted to Mercy in the past and working for Mercy in the past, I would not go there unless it's an absolute super urgent emergency.

I couldn't agree more, similar story to Sam's, it is sad to see this once wondeful hospital go down the way it has.

Live 6 blocks from Mercy and if I had a dog, and he got hit by car, I would not take him to Mercy. This downward spiral has been coming for a very long time. From the per diem nurses who have no buy in, and the awful morale, why on earth anyone would choose this place is beyond me. Recently had the undortunate experieince of riding an ambulance with a family member - bypassed Mercy and headed to Winthrop. On the other hand, Mercy does serve a purpose - keeping the gang bangers with gun shots from infiltrating the other hospitals. Otherwise - pave it over and make it a parking lot.

My father was a surgeon at Mercy back in the day. I had a horrible knee surgery there back in the early 80's. I was an athlete and participated in HS, college, and beyond! His "friend" , totally misdiagnosed me and performed a horrible surgery. I am have corrective surgery that consisted of ACL reconstruction , as well as repairing much of the damage that was done . If you need the best Orthopedic surgery, I strongly urge you to go to NYC to The Hospital for Special Surgery! They are always ranked number one or two in the nation! Now I just have to keep working out to in order to prevent a total knee surgery! I also know many people who went there and died most of them unnecessarily! I am a sports medicine physical therapist and exercise physiologist .....I just wish I was at the time of my surgery!!!!
