Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce Endorses Trump on the Ocean Project

Organizations votes to get behind efforts to construct long-stalled catering facility at Jones Beach.

The Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce (NCCC) announced Wednesday that its members have officially decided to support the long stalled Trump on the Ocean project at .

As renewed attention has been brought to Trump on the Ocean, the NCCC felt now would be the appropriate time to show support in hopes of helping to kick start the project, which if approved by the state would include a 70,000 square-foot restaurant catering facility. A vote to support Trump on the Ocean was passed unanimously by all NCCC members at its last meeting.

Real estate mogul Donald Trump first conceived plans for a restaurant catering facility in 2006 at the site of the former Boardwalk Café at Jones Beach. Trump’s $30 million project has been held up in litigation the last three years due to the State Review Board objecting to his plans for a basement in a flood zone. The newly formed Alliance to Revitalize Jones Beach organized a at Jones Beach State Park attended by Trump to try and galvanize support for the project.

The NCCC cited the more than 1,000 jobs and a $60 million local economic growth during the construction phase of Trump on the Ocean as reasons for supporting the proposed catering facility. The NCCC also said the project is estimated to create 500 permanent jobs and and deliver more than $600 million in economic impact to the Nassau County area over the life of Trump’s lease.

"The travails of this project are a perfect example that too often economic growth on Long Island is stifled by government's unwillingness to work with new businesses that are trying to open or existing businesses that are trying to grow, resulting in a loss of badly needed jobs and tax revenues,” said NCCC president E. Christopher Murray, an attorney at Ruskin Moscou and Faltischek in Uniondale. “Trump on the Ocean represents the perfect opportunity to show Long Island does not have to be the land of no."
