Scoop: DQ Coming to Neighboring Massapequa

Restaurant chain famous for its ice cream treats plans to open first Long Island location on Sunrise Highway.

Dairy Queen has announced plans to open a restaurant in Massapequa.

The Minnesota-based company’s website has a DQ Grill and Chill restaurant coming soon at 5366 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa, near the Westfield Mall.

DQ spokesman Dean A. Peters said the location is expected to open in early May. 

No word on who the franchisee is.

Dairy Queen has more than 4,500 locations nationwide, but this would be the first on Long Island.

While DQ is famous for its ice cream, shakes and Blizzard frozen treats, the chain also serves burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and chicken.

Peters said DQ also plans to open locations in Manhattan and Staten Island in 2013.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
