When Denise Langweber relocated her law firm from Merrick to Wantagh in 2007, she was immediately drawn to the tight-knit community.
Langweber, founder of Denise Langweber LLP on Sunrise Highway, was appointed as president of the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 1 after six years of dedicated service to the organization.
"I want this chamber to strongly represent its members," said Langweber, a Merrick resident. "I want it to continue be a powerful networking organization. It's given me an avenue through which I've met many local business owners, residents and elected officials, and it's absolutely influenced the way I run my practice."
Langweber has specialized exclusively in real estate law for more than three decades, working with purchasers, sellers and lenders primarily in residential transactions.
In the new year, Langweber said she hopes the chamber can continue to support the events that separate Wantagh from its neighboring communities.
"Wantagh is a very community-minded town," she explained. "That's eximplified by the things you don't see elsewhere, like the July 4th parade and the Miss Wantagh Pageant, and other events that our people look forward to."

Langweber added that the chamber is also looking to incorporate new community events this year, including a bar crawl with local pubs, restaurants and limousine companies.
Former Wantagh Chamber of Commerce president Christopher Brown of Mid Island Medical Supply said he is confident in Langweber's ability to head the organization and he is looking forward to seeing the group continue thriving.
"We made a lot of changes in these last three years with the chamber," said Brown, an active member since 1996. "We started a new foundation and we have a new charitable arm."
"My plan for the chamber was to help businesses survive today's economy and it's started to work," he added. "We couldn't have done it without Denise's help. She's going to be a phenomenal president."
The chamber's next meeting will take place Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Thom Thom Steak & Seafood Restaurant in Wantagh. All are welcome to attend.
