New Wantagh Grooming Spa to Hold 2nd Adoption Event

New local business teaming with rescue leagues for monthly adoption events.

Longtime Wantagh resident Susan Bonsignore has opened a brand new grooming spa and boutique that she hopes will improve animal care in the community.

, located at 3447 Merrick Rd, opened its doors to Wantagh on Feb. 1 and on the first Saturday of every month, is working with a local animal rescue league to hold an all day adoption event. In February, Yorkie Rescue 911 came to Wantagh for Shampooch's first adoption day. The second adoption event will be held Saturday with Hands of Hope Animal League.

"They're a great organization," said Bonsignore of the Hands of Hope Animal League. "They cater to animals, pull them from shelters and find them great homes."

The adoption fair will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Afterwards, a professional trainer will be offering a lecture on the importance of spaying and neutering, dog nutrition and dog training.

Bonsignore said Shampooch is designed to offers pets and their owners quality services that corporate chains cannot provide.

"We want to provide a happy, pleasant atmosphere," she said. "We do grooming by appointment only. Our dogs are only here for two hours, we don't leave them sitting in cages all day."

Grooming prices vary by dog size, but generally range from $35 to $100. Aside from grooming, Shampooch offers state-of-the-art animal care necessities and supplies for low prices.
