New Wantagh Petco Open for Business

National pet speciality retailer holding grand opening celebration at newest location in Willow Wood Shops throughout Saturday.

A national pet specialty retailer is now open for business in Wantagh.

Petco opened up shop in the Willow Wood Shops off Wantagh Avenue on Sept. 9. A grand opening celebration for the store is being held throughout Saturday featuring music, giveaways and special customer deals. 

Petco to occupy the former Rite Aid building in the 57,000- square-foot shopping center, which is located within the Levittown School District. Prior to opening in Wantagh, the closest Petco stores to the area were on 5500 Sunrise Hwy. in Massapequa and 2965 Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown.

The phone number for the new Wantagh Petco is 516-826-1524. Store hours are Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
