Pathmark Tops Worst Supermarkets List [POLL]

A recent survey shows Pathmark shoppers aren't satisfied with their experience.

A national supermarket survey released by Consumer Reports found that Pathmark customers have the worst experience of any supermarket chain in the United States.

topped the list, and according to this slideshow, 75 percent of those polled had at least one complaint about shopping at the New Jersey-based chain, which has a on Merrick Road in Seaford.

Food quality, price and cleanliness concerns weighed on Pathmark, which is a unit of A&P.

To see the entire list, check out this report in The Fiscal Times, where King Kullen gets prominently mentioned, though not for having angry customers.

It's worth noting that Pathmark's parent company, Supermarkets General, went into Chapter 11 last year and if I recall corectly a number of their employees had to accept pay cuts as part of whatever restructuring they're going through. I'm not always thrilled with the experience there either, but from my selfish perspective I'd rather patronize a store in Seaford than elsewhere.

My wife hates to go to Pathmark.... We only go because it is close to home, if we are going into another area where there is a Walbaum or King Culles we shop there.

The employees were forced to take a 6.25% pay cut, lose their Sunday pay, medical for part timers, and much more. Labor was cut and people laid off and the part timers were expected to do more work for less money. While I have a work ethic that makes me want to do my job to the best of my ability and I always have a smile, there are a lot of people who have just had enough with A&P and their total lack of concern, gratefulness or respect for any of their employees.

The only POSITIVE thing I can say about Pathmark in Seaford is that the Cashiers are friendly, hardworking and truely wonderful individuals. Other then that the store is HORRIBLE, its dark /dingy/dirty, uninviting and understocked, the pricing is inconsistant , sale items usually unavailable two days into the sale, it is NOt easy to manuever around the store/aisles and the only reason I shop there is because it is close for quick forgotten or must have right away items. Havent done any MAJOR shopping there for years. I have shopped @ Thom Thumb(TX) Pigglywiggly (SC)(the PIG rules in SC!) Krogers( TX) Locally I shop @ Stop n Shop, Key Food, Whole foods , Trader Joes, Walbaums and Best Markets - ALL are VAST improvements over Pathmark in price, ease of shopping , variety and quality. Too bad one of them doesnt take over the space..

I don't have a problem with Pathmark however it does bother me when I'm waiting at the deli and i see three available slicing machines and three clerks all waiting to use the one open machine. I understand the other two slicers are cleaned and ready for bed, but this is just the epitome of POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I WAS ONE OF THE PEOPLE LAID OFF AFTER 28 YEARS. THEY GAVE ME A CHOICE GET TRANSFERED TO A STORE 30 MINUTES FURTHER THAN THE ALREADY 45 MINUTES I WAS DRIVING TO WORK EVERY NIGHT REDUCED TO PART TIME WITH A SIGNIFICANT PAY CUT ON NIGHTS. DID I REALLY HAVE A CHOICE ? I DON'T THINK SO.AFTER 28 YEARS I GOT THI SHIT AND I'M NOT OLD ENOUGH YET TO RETIRE ,BUT OLD ENOUGH NOT TO BE ABLE TO FIND ANOTHER FULL TIME JOB WITH THAT EXPERIENCE ONLY,SO I LOST MY HOUSE AND AS OF AUGUST 1ST WILL HAVE TO APPLY FOR CHARITY CARE FOR MEDICAL , AND THEY WONDER WHY THIS COUNTRY IS IN THE CONDITION IT IS, H E L L O !!!!!

Karen, so sorry to hear that....It has happened to way too many people that have worked for the company. Pathmark was great to work for when it was Pathmark.., although i will agree the Seaford location was never in the prettiest shape (some of it due to zoning laws prohibiting expansion because Takapausha backs up into it, but that's is just PART of it) A&P destroyed the store and discarded the people who loyally worked for them for years. I am so sorry you got screwed as badly as you did, I am sending you good luck vibes and hope things turn around for you soon.
