Skip the Cooking on Christmas Day

Visit one of these local eateries open for business.

Not everyone wants to spend Christmas Day cooking — especially after entertaining on Christmas Eve.  If you'd rather leave dinner to someone else, why not head out to one of your neighborhood eateries? It wasn't easy, but Patch managed to find a handful of local spots that will open their doors on Christmas Day. Whether you're looking for a three-course meal, diner fare or some quick takeout, you'll find it in the mix below.

Thom Thom: This steak and seafood restaurant features an eclectic new dinner menu (think paella, osso bucco and sushi ), early bird specials from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and a creative cocktail list. It will be open during its normal hours, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., on Christmas.
3340 Park Ave., Wantagh; 516-221-8022

Jani: Serving both Chinese and Japanese cuisine, offers plenty of seating and a sushi bar. Enjoy large portions of house specials like Empress Chicken, deep-fried and covered with crushed walnuts. Saturday hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
1175 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh; 516-826-0764

Lighthouse Restaurant Diner: If a bottomless cup of coffee and some comfort food is in order, there's no substitute for a Long Island . The Lighthouse is an old standby, with pages of sandwiches, salads, burgers, omelets and entrees. The best part: its open 24 hours, even on Christmas.
3240 Sunrise Hwy., Wantagh; 516-826-8111

Showa Hibachi: Try this at the corner of Wantagh and Park avenues if you have a hankering for sushi, teriyaki, or an interactive hibachi experience.  The specialty rolls don't disappoint (how could they with names like Fantastic, Yummy and Electric?). Showa will be open from noon to 10 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Boss Croker's: If you've had your fill of heavy holiday meals, snack on some tasty wings and other bar favorites. Order a beer, check out the online juke box, and play a round of darts while you're at – this popular opens at 8 p.m. on Christmas.
1871 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh; 516-679-2967

Saporito Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant: In addition to a wide selection of specialty pies, this Wantagh Avenue pizza place serves up paninis, wraps, pasta, heroes and Italian entrees. Plus, it caters to special diets with whole-wheat pizza crust, multigrain and low-carb pasta and gluten-free items. Saporito delivers and will be open Christmas Day from noon to 9 p.m.
