Local musician Joe Vicino and his Blues Band hold an open jam session at Sunset Grill in Seaford every Wednesday night and he marvels at the atmosphere that the venue has created for people passionate about music.
"It's a great place, because they have been having music for so long there,” said Vicino. “The regular crowd is very receptive to music which is always a plus for musicians."
Sunset Grill has been hosting bands for the last decade with music for a variety of tastes. On a recent Friday night the Seaford bar/restaurant hosted "The Fabulous Sixties Rock Show", featuring many classic songs such as Beatles "All My Loving."
Lou Pastore, owner of Sunset Grill for the last 22 years, said it is still somewhat of a science when finding the right band to play his place. "I'll go see a band in another venue to see not only the type of crowd they draw, but if the crowd are eaters and drinkers," said Pastore. "Makes no sense to have a band draw 100 people if they're not going to spend any money."
Not only is money a concern, but so is competition, according to Pastore. "Summers are the most competitive between outdoor bars and people's backyard,” he said.
This Saturday,Boomers' Brew, a six-piece rock band, will be performing at Sunset Grill from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
