Wantagh Resident Elected Chair of South Nassau’s Board of Directors

Joseph Fennessy named to leadership post with Oceanside hospital.

Wantagh resident Joseph J. Fennessy has been elected chair of the South Nassau Communities Hospital Board of Directors

Fennessy, who is partner and chief operating officer of the Northeast region for Deloitte & Touche LLP in Manattan, succeeds Harold H. Mahony, who served as chair at the Oceanside-based hospital. A member of South Nassau’s Board of Directors since September of 2003, Fennessy previously held the position of vice chair and is currently chair of the audit committee and a member of the finance and investment committees.

“Mr. Fennessy’s business and leadership acumen have been vital to the board’s strategic planning for the growth and expansion of South Nassau,” said Joseph Quagliata, South Nassau Communities Hospital’s president and CEO. “He has a thorough understanding of the challenges we face and the steps we must take to ensure that South Nassau is always in position to meets the needs of the communities it serves.”

Fennessy has more than 40 years of experience in the public accounting profession, most of which is with Deloitte, and specializes in healthcare finance and planning.  Prior to serving as chief operating officer of the Northeast region with Deloitte, the Wantagh resident held a number of key senior executive positions with the organization, including deputy national managing partner of financial systems and analysis.

“As chair of the board, I will follow the lead of my predecessors, who were steadfast in their belief that commitment to teamwork and mission are the cornerstones of South Nassau,” Fennessy said.  “I look forward to continuing my work with the administration and the members of the board of directors to develop and implement the plans and solutions that will build on South Nassau’s tradition of excellence.”

In addition to South Nassau, Fennessy has been involved with other not-for-profit organizations including previously serving as chairman of the Long Island United Way. He is also a member of the Board of the Long Island Philharmonic and vice chairman of the Board of Directors and chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee for Brooklyn United Methodist Nursing Home.
