Wantagh Security Expert Helps Small Businesses Stay Safe

Wantagh resident Frank Catalano has been involved in security for 18 years.  He is director of security at New York Institute of Technology, and a year ago created his own business, First Line Security Consulting, Inc.

Patch recently spoke to Catalano about his work and why he struck out on his own.

Why did you choose to start the business?  I've been in the security business a long time and I'm a regional Vice President  ASIS [American Society for Industrial Security], I had just completed CPP [Certified Protection Professional] training which is one of the highest certifications you can have. I thought opening the business would be a logical step.

What challenges do you face day to day?  I work with small businesses, which tend to be reactive rather than pro-active. Most people don't take precautions until something happens.

What services do you provide? We provide Security Assessments, Educational Resource Programs, and Security Officer Training, for both commercial and residential sectors. Our independent consulting, and quality assurance programs can also help manage  an organization's existing Security plans.

What do you find rewarding about the job? Helping people. I'm not looking to make a fortune I'm just looking to make people aware of what they can do to protect themselves.
