Wantagh Woman Launches Yoga Magazine

Kristen O'Toole wants to share her passion for yoga with others on Long Island.

A Wantagh woman’s passion for practicing yoga has led her to launch a magazine devoted to the spiritual exercise.

Kristen O’Toole, A Port Jefferson native and Stony Brook University graduate, has created l.i Yoga Mag. The online publication that launched in April is described as “Long Island’s magazine dedicated exclusively to the practice of yoga and yoga workshops happening in our local community.”

O’Toole is a yoga teacher whose idea for the magazine was initially born after a conversation with one of her students.

“I became inspired to share what I have learned from hours of studying ancient texts, practicing yoga and attending workshops after being approached by one of my yoga students,” said O’Toole, who teaches yoga in Wantagh. “I wanted yoga practitioners to have a place to go where they can get simple, easy explanations of deeper level yogic philosophy.”

O’Toole completed her 500-hour Yoga Alliance certification at Little Yoga House on Jane Street in Wantagh. The Wantagh resident’s interest in Eastern philosophy stems back to her days at Connetquot High School when she read Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. After competing on the University of Miami crew team, O’Toole transferred to Stony Brook where she studied yoga and Zen Buddhism.
