Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Christian season of Lent. 

There was a continuous steam of people who stopped into St. Francis of Assissi church to receive ashes and a blessing from the Friar in the Chapel of Saint Anthony, half a block east of Penn Station. No pretend praying, though.

Greetings and blessings of the season to everyone!

As a follow-on, some of my co-workers reported that the Church of the Most Precious Blood in Long Island City/Astoria was SRO during the noon hour Mass, and they ran out of Communion wafers with humble and sincere apologies.
