Walker Wins in Wisconsin

For public sector unions, there is a bad moon on the rise, and it is over in Wisconsin.

This is a huge story.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker blew away the opposition, largely public sector unions and their members, who were seeking his recall from office, yesterday.  Significantly, the results were NOT EVEN CLOSE, meaning not only did the recall attempt fail miserably, but Walker's stridently anti-public-sector-collective-bargaining-rights legislative platform was widely and roundly endorsed by the taxpayers of Wisconsin.

I personally agree and expect that this election will have legislative and electoral reverberations around most of the country, although probably not to any significant degree in New York. The power and ""rights"" of public sector employees to collectively bargain will be reduced and possibly eliminated in some jurisdictions outside of New York.

In New York State, we should expect to see a moderation of public sector bargaining demands and of legislative lobbying in the wake of this election, but not likely immediately.

Mitt Romney has seized upon this event as a benefit for his campaign strategy.

President Obama is fumfering, seeking any beneficial spin out of this, but with no luck.

The final vote tally was not available at this writing, but with 37 percent of precincts reporting it was 59 percent for Walker to 40 percent for the opposition.
