WSHA Neighborhood Watch:Tips on Purse and Wallet Safety

Civic Group provides tips on purse and wallet Safety.

It's easy to become complacent and unaware of our surroundings making us an easy target. Many of us display our purses and wallets in a way to make us inviting targets to criminals. The tips provided below will make it harder to become a victim of a larceny. Smalls steps can prevent you from becoming a target.

 Purse and Wallet Safety.

 
• Only take what you need that Day.

• Keep ID, keys and credit cards on your person and not in your handbag.

• Carry purses and handbags under your arm like a football, not dangling from the straps or draped over your shoulders.

• Be aware of your purse or wallet in crowded areas. Wallets should be carried in the front trouser pocket or inside jacket pocket. 

• When dining out, keep your purse or handbag on your lap.

• If someone attempts to rob you, do not resist especially of a weapon is involved. Resisting might result in injury or worse. 

• Eliminate spare keys from purse.

• In the supermarket, do not leave your purse in the shopping cart. Remember: out-of-sight, out-of-mind, "out-of-purse".

• Avoid displaying valuables such as jewelry or large sums of money. 

• Zip or close purse securely to avoid purses pickpockets.

The Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners' Association (WSHA) Neighborhood Watch will be having a meeting on Saturday May 4 at the Seaford Public Library starting at noon. The neighboorhood watch will also be at the WSHA Sandy Recovery forum on Monday April 15 at the Seaford Knights of Colombus Hall starting at 6:30 p.m. Over 30 agencies have signed on to assist you. Stop by the Neighborhood Watch Table and get involved.
