WSHA Neighborhood Watch: Why a Neighborhood Watch?

Why a neighborhood watch?

Neighborhood Watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the country, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer. neighborhood watch is a program in which all the people who live in one area agree to watch out for each other. So if one of your neighbors notices a suspicious character hanging around your house, or a car that keeps driving up and down your block, they will notify you and contact the police. Participating in a neighborhood watch to discourage criminals from spending time on your block or street is something valuable you can do – even if you have little to no self defense experience or knowledge.

The Wantagh/Seaford homeowners association is in the process of forming a neighborhood watch. We will be having a meeting on saturday may 4th 12pm at the Seaford library. We will be looking to fill positions within the watch program. Some of these positions will include regional directors, who will be in charge of a large area. Corresponding secretary who will be in charge of notifying our members through an email list of conditions effecting out area. Block captains who will be in charge of their block and of course the most important part members. Our goal is to set up a email chain to keep members informed of conditions in our area. To provide crime prevention tips to our members. To hold meetings and work in conjunction with the Nassau county police to reduce crime in our neighborhood. Please join us on may 4th and get involved.

Christopher Carini is a trustee with the Wantagh Seaford Homeowners Association and is also Director of its Neighborhood Watch.
