Growing up in Wantagh/Seaford my address for activity was Seaford scout troop 138. First I became a cub scout in pack 138 which met at the methodist church on Washington Ave. Mr. Day was cubmaster. I was in den 4 -Mrs. Khuner was den mother. Lots of fun. Once Mr Day took 3 or 4 of us to the dedication of Sagamore Hill as a national site. As we lined the back entrance to the site, President Eisenhower came by in his covertable car, looked at me and said "Hi there, cub scout." That made my day.
Moving up to boy scout troop 138 which met at first in the Jackson Ave school, and then in the Seaford Ave School. Charles Fisher was scout master. Other leaders included Mr Smith, Mr Huber, Mr Wenstel. I was in the Beaver Patrol and eventually became patrol lear. Member included Andres Fontain, Russel Hewitt, Joseph Hovanec, Mark Held, Bill Roller... Most memorable were the weekends at Camp Wauwepex plus 3 summers there.
At my now address we are experiencing another "hamtzin" heat wave. Here in Shiloh it is also very windy - hot wind. The security situation is also hot - with threats from Syria, Lebanon and Gaza, not to mention our rock throwing neighbors. We are talking about large rocks and boulders being thrown at cars. Several years ago my neighbor across the street lost a child when a rock was thrown at their car. We pray for peace.
