Memories
Our Wantagh address was between Sunrise and Merrick Rd. Merrick Rd did not have much back in the 50's. There was Charlie's Deli on Merrick at Fir St. And there was Friendly Barber. My Mom loved to walk, so we would walk on Merrick Rd to Mill Pond, to feed the ducks and swans. Or we would head east to Seaford, to Tackapusha Park. Mom liked to shop at Mid-Island store, and we banked at Seaford National Bank. There wasn't much on Wantagh Ave either. There was a nursury school. There was Dr. Stewart, whose office was in his home, and his wife was his nurse. In those days doctors made house-calls. I remeber the night Doc Steward drove my Mom to Amityville Hospital to deliver my sister Carol. At my current address we are about to have a "chamsin." The word is Arabic for 50. There are 50 days in spring, between Passover and Pentecost, when we get heat waves - hot, dry air from the Sahara. Therfe is almost never rain here after Passover until October. This year we had some unseasonable rain and cold. Now each day gets hotter. Have a pleasant Sabbath/Weekend. Shalom from Israel.
